The older persons assessment unit (OPAU) sees people over 65, helping them with issues that may be affecting their independence and well being. They also accept patients under 65 where it's felt they can best address their needs.
The team includes specialist doctors, nurses and therapists. The support you receive will depend on your individual needs, for example:
- A consultant or specialist nurse may perform a full medical and nursing assessment
- A physiotherapist may provide advice and exercises, e.g. to improve your walking and movement
- Occupational therapists will assess how you're doing with day-to-day activities. They provide equipment and support to help you maintain your independence.
