Making Healthcare More Efficient Effective
SUPPORT PRACTICES WITH INCOME AND REDUCING COSTS
The Federation is looking at areas of back office where costs can be reduced by sharing. These include:
HR administrative support.
LES and DES reporting.
In 2016 we will try to use benchmarking tools to compare how practices compared against metrics such as administration time as a percentage of total time. We are now using the same approach to compare long term condition management. The objective is to identify practices which have high outcomes but with less activity. This will then be shared across the Federation.
EXPLORING CLINICAL RESEARCH
We are in the process of trying to integrate clinical research which will benefit patients, offer GP career development opportunities and generate additional practice income.
Our current approach has limitations because each practice is too small to generate sufficient patients for larger (and more lucrative) trials. Also the process of searching for suitable patients and recruiting them is cumbersome.
The Federation is aiming to explore the following:
Increasing the number of patients able to be recruited for trials
Possibly use a Federation employed nurse to recruit patients to trials.
Employing a central administrator to conduct searches.
